January 3/08 from David:

I bumped into your website while looking for that series ALMOST HOME / ON THE MOVE

I didnt know the series name, but remembered the lyrics so i typed " Drifting down the highway " into google.....
and was suprized to find your page!

been looking for ages for some remanents of that show and your website`s the only place ive found it

Im from Israel by the way, I remember watching that show tens of times when i was a kid....
(i didnt have much of a choice - only one channel back then) they aired just those 3 episodes you mention over and over.

i liked that show, and that song really got engrained in my mind also the song from the third episode "AN OLD MAN WITH A SUITCASE FULL OF BOOKS "
when the dude is picking cotton there`s this neat song "back to the harvest"

Id really REALLY appreaciate if you can post the opening theme or even just an mp3 of the songs or something.

the link on to the clip seems dead...

Thanks for creating such a great website!

(You are the third person from Israel to write to me about this show. The link indeed is dead. When I get a chance I will update it with a youtube clip of my own)

Jan 5/08 from Chantal:

I ran into your web page about the tvo shows, and I'm wondering if you could help me find the name of one program. I believe it played around
the 1990's, and i think was filmed in Australia, or maybe the UK. It was about this girl from the future, she ends up in the present ( I
forget how) but starts chasing some man that is from a different point in time, who is causing troubles. Meets another girl that has purple
dyed hair, and becomes good friends. The girl form the future has some kind of device she puts on her head that allows her to focus
energy of sorts. It's been so long I don't remember now.

(The Girl From Tomorrow)

Jan 15/08 from Des:

Hello there. I liked the little info page you have on Fables of the Green Forest. I wonder if you have a
complete list of the names of the 54 episodes? So far I only have found about 43 listed. I'd like to know
what all the eps were called.

(I don't have much of an episode list - I will add yours)

Jan 18/08 from Adeeb:

Hey, to "Rachel" on your Feedback on TVOntario... page, I have some info on "Getting to Know Me". I too was looking for this show, and I found this:

http://www.poconomountainsfilmfestival.com/index.php?pr=Frazier_Prince

Apparently this is the actor that played the preteen boy in the show!

Now if I can only find the girl, who I had a crush on back then (heh heh). The show was great though, really!

(Thanks for the info)

Jan 25/08 from Rob:

The last post on the CUCUMBER thread says:

"Cherly offers this info: One episode i remember vividly had Moose trying to put together a plastic model dinosaur. The child reporter did a story on dinosaur skeletons in Alberta. By the end of the episode, Moose couldn't seem to be able to put the model together (even though there were only about 4 or 5 pieces ... i remember screaming at the teevee screen), but when he and Beaver left the lodge, some spooky music played and we saw a stop-motion sequence of the model putting itself together
This show aired on TVO, TVOntario, TV Ontario"
I can offer the following insight:

Yes, Cherly you remember correctly. I didn't even remember remembering this sequence during a CUCUMBER episode until you mentioned it. When I read your description, I remembered the episode and a one-off joke Moose made about the pieces not fitting together and that one piece might have been last night's chicken dinner(?). And yes, there was a Royal Tyrell/Alberta introduction (where I've since visited as an adult without ever thinking of the show). They discussed fossil hunting, excavation, preparation, etc. if I am correct.

And lastly, after the episode had "wrapped up" there indeed was freaky music and the dinosaur model did assemble itself. Had you not mentioned this I would have never recalled these details. However, I can vouch for your experience as someone who grew up watching the show.

(Good stuff!)

Jan 26/08 from Shannon:

I was wondering if you remembered the show that had a gray-haird man that did pastel drawings while he told a story. I am not sure if it aired in Ontario, but it did air on our PBS station. I also wanted to tell you I loved your website! It brought back so many memories. :O)

(BirdBook or Read It with John Robins I think)

Jan 30/08 from Tony:

Just wanted to say Thanks for keeping a part of my childhood alive! :-)
Specifically, I'm referring to the TVO portion of your tribute website. To see those little snapshots of my fave TV shows almost brought a tear to my eye.

Keep up the good work

Feb 2/08 from Aaron:

Thanks for the impressively comprehensive site about 1970's TVO programmes. Shows which I had forgotten about were quickly remembered
with fondness.

Like others, I'd like to get my hands on some Secret Railroad episodes, but they're hard to find (a few years ago, I learned of a library that
carried some episodes in French, but that was it). I remembered an animated story about a boy who was apprenticed to an evil wizard -- the
animation style was identical to that of the Secret Railroad. Thanks to the feedback page on your site, I learned that the film was "The
Sorcerer's Apprentice," narrated by Vincent Price (http://www.rickstv.com/tvo/feedback2004.html). As a fellow
Torontonian, I should mention that you can borrow the video from the public library.

(I need to go check that out!)

Feb 8/08 from Andrina:

I have been wondering about a show and I found this site and a woman asked the same question I was wondering about .. this was her post

Okay there was this show I think probably in the 80's or early 90's. It had 3 people, 2 guys and a girl. One guy was black and wore a painters outfit, kinda like overalls. The other guy was white and he rode a bike all the time. The girl was hispanic and she had long curly brown hair. They used to sing and dance and do crafts all the time. They had this train too that would bring them out lemonaid on the balcony. I don't know much more then that. The white guy kinda looked like Noah Wyle. But all I need is the name of the show plz help me!

I have been dying to know what this show is called as well.. if you could post it on this webpage it would cure my frustration or email me back if you know the shows name!

Feb 13/08 from Jesse:

Hi, your site is great, I’ve been trying to remember the names of Starlore, Once Upon A Time and Tomes and Talismans for years now, but there’s one more I must identify: the premise was very similar to the aforementioned shows, except it was about a lady from the East Coast who moved to the Old West, bought a saloon and turned it into a “reading salon”. The main villain was a guy named “Black Bart”. Sadly, Google has come up short, and I’m not sure if this was ever aired in Canada, but it was definitely a product of the same Nebraska Public Televison people who did Starlore and Once Upon A Time. Any ideas?

(I am stumped)

Feb 16/08 from Janice:

found your site.. and 'we' are desperately trying to remember the name of this tv show we watched as children... it aired in the am and all we can remember about it is...
children are running through an open field a barn children holding big letters that spell the name of the show?
at the end the children would jump into the hay a lady was talking to a puppet

HELP!!!

sorry about the vagueness of our memories...

we are also looking for clips of the little prince... would you be able to help out on that?

(Sounds bizarre)

Feb 17/08 from Shannon:

Someone please help me!!!!!! there was a show on TVO when I was young, about 20 years ago! it was from the 70's or 80's. they were exercising, all the time, all kinds of different scenes, underwater ( fake obvioulsy) and sooo on! I cant remember the name! If you know, please post it, I will be forever grateful!

(Maybe it was Come Fly With Me)

Feb 28/08 from Christine:

Put me out of my misery! I'm desperate to find the name of a show I watched as a child (70s or 80s). I've asked everyone I know and posted the question online and have had no answers. I started searching online when I found your site. The show in question's opening had a covered waggon travelling through the countryside with a acting or Gypsies troupe in tow. Actors in ancient costume recreated fairy and/or cautionary tales on a modern-day stage. Closing credits played at dusk and the people and surroundings are now silhouetted. Does it sound familiar to you? I watched a lot of the shows you mentioned on TVO and even some you didn't (isn't "Let's Go!" a tvo program?)

(Someone please help!!!)

Feb 28/08 from Janelle:

Your website is one of the reasons that I love with the internet.

I had a very strange flash back yesterday of when I used to watch the show "All About You". I must have been 5 years old.
I was trying to explain it to my husband. He had never seen it. I remember an episode where the host told us not to get inside a refrigerator, because we could get locked in. It wasn't any type of fridge that I had seen before, but the point was well taken and I never did get inside my refrigerator. What a life saver that episode was. I remember that the host had a very deep voice and interesting manner of speaking, and the theme song was great.

Do you have any info on a show that (I think) aired on PBS around the same time? The host was a chubbyish guy with black hair and he had some kind of bird puppet as a side kick. Perhaps it is already on your website, but I didn't recognize the title.

Thanks for keeping me and many others connected with their childhood.

(Maybe BirdBook again with John Robins?)

Mar 8/08 from Brett:

I grew up on TVO programmes and fondly remember all of the programs listed. I particularly like the particular schedules that you have posted. I was wondering if you would be able (and willing) to help me out. I've been trying to piece together when Doctor Who episodes were broadcast on TVO. I have everything from Jan 1986 onwards. If you have the episode titles for the Nov 1980, July 1981, Sept 1981, June 1984, Sept 1984 schedules I would be greatly indebted to you!

(Any Doctor Who fans out there?)

Mar 13/08 from Leslie:

Feb 21/07-I do remember that show! It was a PBS show that was aired in I think 1983 and was called "Palabrajot" and was about a cricket that would hop along the words in a sentence as the narrator read the sentence. The cricket's name was Palabrojot and each time you would unscramble a sentence grammaticly correct, the cricket would yell, "Palabrojot!!!" The show would cover misspelled words, punctuation, sentence fragments, verbs, nouns, etc... I remember we use to set aside time in school for that show. It was one of my favorites. I sure wish we had things like that on public television for our children now a days.

(Thank you!)

Mar 18/08 from SR:

(Wow - I have no idea)

Mar 29/08 from Mark:

Hey, great site! Brings back a lot of memories. I was searching the net trying to find out about an old PBS show when I stumbled upon your site. It seems like a lot of people were also trying to figure out what the show with a tag line 'palabra jot' was. Well, I found out it was called 'The Write Channel'. There's even a wiki article about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Write_Channel

So there you go! Next time someone asks you about that show or line, you have the answer.

Mar 30/08 from Eyal:

I could not help myself after reading your article about Fables of the green forest.
That's my absolute favorite series of my lifetime.
It's rare and so hard to get, you must think about the preservation of it. I mean, to encode this to divx and share it with the world.
With me atleast. I would gladly give you back any 80 cartoon you want, in high quality. But today you can get practically anything.
EXCEPT for Fables. We must preserve this, and god I envy you!!

(Trouble! Trouble!)

Apr 5/08 from Liat:

I am wondering if you have copies of Math Patrol and Read all about it on Dvd or VHS as mentioned on your website?

I have been looking for math patrol for years, but I couldn't remember the name of the show, all I could remember (as a strong memory from grade 2) was a man in a kangaroo suit and the lampost, and no one knew what I was talking about.

And I'm so thankful I came across your site, because I was starting to think i had made it up.

(The Man in the Kangaroo suit stumps many people!)

Apr 16/08 from Sharon:

I love this site! So many memories!! I grow up in Buffalo, NY so I watched all the Canadian show. One I never knew the name of was the one that was in french the name looked like a bug and they wrote it out and than below that they wrote it again and that was were they got the bug. What was the name of the show that they kids said hello in different languages? I might be big blue marble. No one every said anything about the other Jeremy show (I think its different) He had a magic suitcase that could change into anything.

The one that I need to know what it was. I was in the 70's and I think in B&W it came on after school on PBS about 3:00 I think. It began with a drawing of a house and a land and that was how you go to his house. I think he was a Professor and I think he had a dog. He wore a hat and suspenders and I think he would show cartoons. I'm pretty sure he was in a workshop.

Just some of my favorites

"Lets all sing a song today with tony Salatan"

Tiny Talent Time!- Theme Here is a show that hip.. for those of you who are small.....that's all I know!

Special Place....I still have the Finder Reminder!!!

Fables of the Green Forest

SO SO SO many I can't even tell you! Wish we could get together and talk about all the great shows!

(Thanks for the comments)

Apr 20/08 from Greg:

I remember watching Read All About It in school when I was in the sixth grade in 1989. Each week we'd watch a chapter in the classroom
or in the library. It might have been the first serial storyline in my life that really captured my interest. Very quickly I began to
look forward to the show each week. The background music and the text during the previous chapter's recap, they particularly invoked a
high level of positive anticipation with the suspense of what was going to happen next.

When the story came to its end in the first season, I was delighted to learn that there were more episodes. The following week we
continued with the second season. However, the length of the school year wasn't going to permit us to finish the season. It was a relief
when the teacher told us she'd double up the chapters for the final weeks to complete the story.

I wanted to capture something from the story. The best thing I could think of was to write down the chapter title each week, and I still
have the notebook that contained the titles. Unfortunately, some weeks I forgot to do it. But thanks to the Internet, I now have all
the chapter titles and can view the episodes again!

One odd memory I captured was the name of the actress who played Lynne. I had something of a crush on her back in the day, and
somehow my memory has retained the name Lydia Zajc. It's amazing how the mind retains selective memories.

(Seems like many people had a crush on Lydia Zajc - thanks for the story)

Apr 25/08 from John:

I trust today finds you well. I was wondering if you could help me figure out what this program was – it may, in fact, not be children’s programming in the traditional sense. But I remember it as a child (it’s almost dreamlike). It was an animated show that might have been on in the evenings, it was an account of human history that always featured the same characters. By the same characters, I mean it was the same bloodline and it gave a historical account of Roman, Greek society, etc. They literally began the series as cavemen, and advanced through history and ended with space travel. It definitely aired in the 70’s. I’m also fairly certain it was a dubbed European program. I really just need to know the name if it – any help would be much appreciated!

(One Upon a Time...Man - orginally was done in French)

Apr 28/08 from Erik:

Hi! I stumbled upon your site recently... and there's so many replies, I really don't have time to search for this. I've been trying to remember a show they used to show up until very recently in the mornings on CBC for kids. It was one of those claymation shorts, like Pingu, but it had little red, orange, etc. blob guys who morphed into different shapes and spoke in gibberish. Do you remember the name of that show? It was hilarious!

(not familair with more recent stuff, sorry)

May 15/08 from Art:

Really enjoying your site! I've tried to explain to my kids the kind of shows I grew up on, but unless the characters have a trading card game named after them my lads don't much care :)

One show that haunts me from the mid-70's is a cartoon that taught history. I can't recall the name. The opening of the episodes started with (I think) a Bach organ piece while it followed man's course through history from caveman to astronauts taking off in a rocket. The episodes themselves focussed on a particular historical point, and usually followed 2 male characters. I seem to recall a date-bar in the bottom corner of the screen.

I truly loved that show, and I get flashbacks of it from time to time. Any idea at all what it was called?

(Once Upon A Time....Man)

May 19/08 from Allan:

I was recently looking through your website about TVO Kids' Shows from the 70's & 80's. In fact, many people at my workplace have had a look at it as well, as we are mostly "70's Children" and remember these shows as well.

One person named Christine had e-mailed on Feb. 28/08 asking about a show where and acting troupe, very "gypsy-like" go around telling classic fables. I KNOW THIS ONE! It was called "StoryTime Theatre" and aired on Saturday afternoons on Global Television ( I remember watching it along around the same time as Hammy Hamster). It had a few well-known actors from that time period, although I couldn't tell you who they are anymore. I was sure one of them was the bushy mustached dude from the old Doritos commercials from the late 70's and 80s! I even remember the tune of the theme song.... it started off something like, " Why Don't We Sing A Song All Together..." It had a covered wagon going along the countryside with kids following behind, and one story I remember vividly was the the one where the man gets 3 wishes...wishes for a sausage, then wish #2 sees the sausage stuck to the wife's nose, etc.... I've Googled for more info about this show, but nothing. Although I know I'm NOT crazy! I remember it for sure. I'm seeing if I can find some past listings through Global Television Network or TV Guide,...

After doing a little more research, discovered that what Christine was asking about was actually called "Story Theatre" ( although I could've sworn it was called StoryTIME theatre...) Anyways, it starred Bob Dishy, Peter Bonerz ( the dentist from The Bob Newhart Show, Avery Schreiber ( HE was the Doritos guy), and others. The page I found on the net states it as being from 1971, but that seems way early to me....

(Thanks for the feedback - always great to hear from people who know the answers to the questions, I don't!)

June 15/08 from Kirrily

Hi, I'm really happy to find your site - there were so many fantastic tv shows and films made for children in the 60s to 80s and nothing made anymore has the same quality of imagination it seems. Thank you for your hard work. I am desperate to find out the name of a childrens math based show where the characters travelled around in a dice cube. It reminds me a bit of the avengers so maybe it was made in the 60s -70s. I remember them visiting a giant chess board. If you can help at all it would be wonderful. It has been puzzling me for years and years.

(Anyone know this one?)

June 18/08 from Bobby:

I remember watching some of the shows you mention in the early 80's. One in particular I have spent hours trying to find anything on is "Strawberry Square" I don't remember where it was recorded but the information that I've found so far it May have been Ontario. Do you have any information on this or can you point me in the right direction where I could find some?

(Anyone have molre info on this?)

July 8/08 from Lisa:

Love your website! It brings back a whole lot of memories for me. I grew up in the 80's and absolutely loved watching all of these shows, especially Join In!, Dear Aunt Agnus, Read All About It, Polka Dot Door, Today's Special, and Sharon Lois and Bram's elephant show. I understand that TVO's rights to broadcast these shows have expired, but there seems to be so many people who are extremely interested in seeing these shows again. Do you think any of them will ever be available to buy on DVD? I don't understand why they wouldn't. I'm sure they'd fly off the shelves. Please let me know what you think.

(I would love to see many of these programs - have been saying that for years. Fingers still crossed)

July 8/08 from Danielle:

Hey, I was reading through the archives and someone asked about a TV show that had a dancing record that was followed around by a wooden spoon (question is dated june 7 '07). The show was "Size Small." One of my favs. Still have cassette tapes with music from the show!

July 13/08 from Craig:

All the junk that is on TV for children nowadays is ither about selling a product or entertaining preschoolers as a previous correspondent said. I
dream of the day when I can burn these shows to DVD and show them to my future children. Goodness knows they weren't perfect, but they were for sure
better than anything on TV today.

I would enjoy it if more mention of the following shows were made:

Many Voices
Just Like You
Green Earth Club
Dear Aunt Agnus

Also, I went to the Belleville Waterfront Festival this weekend and saw Cindy Cook entertaining the children onstage. I wanted to meet her, but by
the time I went backstage to talk to the MC she was gone.

Many Voices was a fifteen-minute show about multiculturalism. Each show would focus on a different kid from a different background and the issues
they faced with regard to assimilating into Canada. The Kentucky Department Of Education has information on Many Voices, including an episode list.

Just Like You was another fifteen-minute show which was also about multiculturalism. It took place in the ESL room of a school. It featured a
talking computer and three kids: Lee Fong from China, Diego from Peru and Chandra or something from Sri Lanka. The computer would talk to the kids and
the audience, and at the end she would give a quiz to the viewers recaping what happened. The first episode concerned Diego's arrival at the school and
how he missed Peru. Another episode was about the kids baking a cake and how they each wanted to put an ingredient from their homeland in it even though
none of them were in the cake recipe. Lee Fong put in sweet bean paste, Diego put in coffee and Chandra put in cinnamon. In another episode, the
kids took Diego grocery shopping and he was amazed at the varieties of milk and bread and things like that. Another episode had something to do with
Chandra's sister coming to the school and the kids wore their best clothes. I can't find a bloody thing about this show on the internet.

Green Earth Club was about environmental issues. It was ither fifteen minutes or half an hour. It has a page at tv.com.

(Thanks for all the info)

July 24/08 from Mike:

This is quite the webpage. This period must mean a lot to you. My kids grew up during time period as well.Jeremy, Barbapapa,Fables,Simon,Dr Snuggles and
Hattytown tales, etc, were just a few of the many programs available at the time. My oldest son has such fond memories of these shows that he would like
to show them to his own kids who are now 5 and 3. Unfortunately, some are almost impossible to get in English and in the correct format.

(Always hoping that these eventually come out on DVD)

August 12/08 from Tanya:

I'm wondering if you remember a show that took place "under the sea "with puppets.. there was a snail, a crab, etc, and one of them was a
schoolteacher.. I can't remember the name of the show for the life of me and it's driving me nuts. I think the main character was a snail...

Let me know if you can think of anything!

(Snelgrove Snail?)

September 5/08 from David:

don't know how old this web page is but thought I'd throw my 2-cents in.

As I vividly recall, "All About You" was shown once a week for a while during school hours (morning). It was school year 1968-69 and we were in grade 2, and the teacher would roll out the big black and white classroom TV (a fairly large TV with 2 locked hinged doors she had to open up which closed up the TV). Class-room TV's in those days were on tall chrome stands about 6-feet high with shopping cart-like wheels. She would turn off the lights and we would watch (it was alot better than reading or writing in our workbooks!).

It was obviously part of the curriculum in those days (Mariposa Township School Board, near Lindsay, Ontario). So the show goes back much further than some of the younger people have recalled.

I was fascinated by the show and have never forgotten it.

(My copyright on All About You is 1974 - so these may have been older episodes. Very interesting!)

September 25/08 from Michelle:

I am a teacher and I was just recalling a show that I used to watch as a child with a boot and a shoe called pretty. I was just wondering if you could tell me the name.

(Readalong - a classic!)

October 2/08 from Donovan:

great site. I love the old times. I grew up in the 70's and have fond memories of then.
I am searching for a cartoon that I watched several times back in the late 70's early 80's. I can't remember the name, and hardly the movie itself. I believe it was about a boy who was stuck in a land of giants or tyrants in a castle and was trying to escape. does this sound familiar to you? I want this cartoon but with my lack of memory it is hard to get anywhere. if you can suggest anything I would be so appreciative. I believe I watched it on TVO. It had narration and voices.

Thanks for any interest.

(Sounds like a very interesting show)

October 4/08 from Gregory:

please can you help me i am trying to find a program i use to watch in my primary school it was about a alien who use to live in the sea but eat human food there were 3 men all wearing different colours and they use to take him down to the beach, think his name was muzzy or somrthing like that please help. thanks...

(No idea on this one)

October 9/08 from Judy:

I recently bought a biography of George Bernard Shaw by Michael Holroyd and it jogged my memory of the episodic series TVO used to
broadcast during the daytime schedule in the late 1970s, starring Colin Fox as the young GBS. I've looked at the actor's online
filmographies and can find no mention of it. Colin Fox was, as usual, superb, and the series was very informative. Do you know the title and
particulars about how many episodes were filmed?

I was in my teens and twenties when I watched these shows. I couldn't stand game shows and soap operas so I used to tune in TVO daytime
programming. Much better for the mind, even the children's stuff!

Also, I see mention from your e-mail archives of Tony Salatan, whom I used to watch. I still remember one of his songs:

There were three white gulls a flying, there were three white gulls a flying, there were three white gulls a flying,
And they soared to the sky, and they soared to the sky, and they soared to the sky.

Subsequent verses, included these lines, repeated thrice, and each followed by the refrain "And they soared. . ."
--In the Waves they dipped their wings
--In the clouds they danced and tumbled

I remember the song for Simon in the Land of Chalk Drawings too (I
think):

Well you know my name is Simon
And the things I draw come true
All the pictures take me, take me over
Climb the ladder with you.

And I still remember Heather Conkie singing the "Report Canada" song. Wheee! I also like that TVO had the spirit to bring Doctor Who to
Canada with introductions by the late Judith Merril and the other fellow Dr. Dator, who was equally informative. I shall remember Elwy
Yost's "Magic Shadows" as a gem.

Great stuff, it's a shame we don't fund this sort of programming any more. I see by the comments from others, and the passion the old TVO
programming still engenders, that the money certainly wasn't wasted.

There is a great book by historian Jacques Barzan called "The Culture We Deserve" that highlights how culture slips through our fingers,
never to be found again, leaving us bereft of a foundation for being human, and in a torrent of useless information, ignorant of history
and local references.

We were very, very lucky to have had people of vision and culture leading the way in those early days of TV Ontario.

(Thanks for sharing your information and thoughts - very good details you provided)

October 11/08 from Briana:

I am looking for the name of a show. It was about a librarian kidnapped by a witch and stuck in a tower. would you happen to know the name of that show?

(Sounds too recent for me)

October 20/08 from Sarah:

(Too recent for me to know)

December 12/08 from Melissa

I came across your website when I was searching for an old show that I believe was on TVO kids. Im not sure if it was a french show, but I remember a painter dressed in blue with a large moustache in one segment, but I also remember watching hands, just hands on like a black background...i remember as we transfered from each segement to a new one, the screen would pan out and you would see like 6 or 9 different potential clips we could watch, and then the camera would pan into one.
I hope you have a recollection of the show i'm talking about....please email me back with any sort of information.

December 26/08 from Michael:

I am trying to find the name of a TV show that aired when TVOKids/Crawlspace launched back in 1994.

It was produced by either BBC Wales or BBC Bristol. It was set in Wales and dealt with magic/witchcraft, and was marketed towards 10-14
year olds (it aired at either 6pm or 6:30pm)

If you know what it is, please let me know. I've been searching for it for years.

(After my TVO viewing years - hopefully someone else will know!)
